Introduction

In POTCO, we all work hard to become the Ultimate Master Pirate (I'm a wonderful example of this) unfortunately for some of you, that includes mastering potions. In layman terms, potions is a tile matching game... that's it, and once you get the hang of it, it'll be easy. Making potions is a wonderful way to earn rep, as well as boost skills, help you fight better, and some potions are just for fun (I'm sure you're all envious of those flatulent choirs out there, and want to join yourselves -- Auburn and I have been working on Jingle Bells, and we need a baritone).

Potion Levels and Rep:

Level 1: Marksman Draught I - 13 rep, Swashbuckler Stew I - 13 rep
Level 2: Cannoneer Draft I - 18 rep, Mystic Mixture I - 18 rep
Level 3: Swift Foot I- 23 rep, Belchin' Brew - 28 rep
Level 4: Flatulent Fizz - 33 rep, Deadeye I - 30 rep
Level 5: Lively Bucko Brew I - 35 rep, Ghastly Visage - 55 rep
Level 6: Marksman Draught II - 40 rep, Swashbuckler Stew II - 40 rep
Level 7: Cannoneer Draft II - 45 rep, Mystic Mixture II - 45 rep
Level 8: Swift Foot II - 50 rep
Level 9: Deadeye II - 55 rep
Level 10: Lively Bucko Brew II - 60 rep, Shrinkin' Grog - 60 rep
Level 11: Marksman Draught III - 65 rep, Swashbuckler Stew III - 65 rep

Level 17: Lively Bucko Brew IV - 100 rep, Addled Elixir - 105 rep
Level 18: Phantom Spirits II - 110 rep
Level 19: Hardy Matey II - 115 rep, Plunder Potion II - 110 rep
Level 20: Staff Enchant II - only available for Madam Zigana's quest during the Raven's Cove Story Quests, if you complete this potion for her, you'll receive the bonus of getting the Burnt Staff (my favourite, and worth the extra work).

Tips

The following are just some simple tips that will make potion making a lot easier:

Clicking the right mouse button switches the tiles (it took me a while to find this out)
For any potions that are labelled as being able to be made at 'Any Island', go to Port Royal to complete them, since it has the base ingredients (Scorpion, Alligator, and Crab tiles)
For anyone at Potion Making level 5 and up, the Ghastly Visage potion (only can be made on Cuba) is the easiest and gives the best rep of 55

My Strategy

You need at least 3 of an ingredient to make the next one. For example, to make Crab Jelly, you need 3 Crab Claws, and to make Crab Extract, you need 3 Crab Jelly, etc etc. However, the more tiles you combine, the more of the next ingredient you'll create. For example, combining 4 Crab Claws creates 2 Crab Jelly, as shown here:

In order to create higher ingredients such as Essences, Gems, and Souls, you need to set up your ingredients to allow a higher number of ingredients to combine. Here are step by step instructions:

This strategy can be used on any ingredient, but to simplify things I'm just going to use the Alligator ingredients by name. To begin, you need to pile the Fang Shard on top of each other with a space between them. In order to do this, you can either place 3 of the Alligator Tooth on top of each other or 2 Alligator Tooth tiles where you would like the Fang Shards to land and 1 Alligator Tooth next to the 2. Of course, you can always create multiple Fang Shards at once by combining 4 Alligator Tooth, however if you do this you need to be careful of your placement of the Alligator Tooth tiles so that the 2 Fang Shards will land on top of each other.

The next step is to pile 2 Alligator Tooth tiles on top of the 2 Fang Shards you've created, as well as 3 Alligator Tooth in the space you've left between the Fang Shards.

This creates 1 Alligator Soul. Of course, to create multiple souls you can replace the Fang Shards with Tooth Dust and the Alligator Tooth tiles with Fang Shards.

THANK YOU SO MUCH! I'm doing potions right now and D told me to check this out. Thank you, I think it helped!!! I hate potions, they make me so frustrated. Anyway, I'm gonna go try again.. me and my level 9 potions lol.

Does anyone else think the blue crab claw looks like a parrot? I always thought it was. And also, the red scorpion, I always thought was a duck. Heh, whatever lol.
